Here is what is going on in the classroom!

Math: We will wrap  up our unit 3 quiz on multiplication and division by comparing data and information.  We will then begin Unit 4 on using Mental Math and Estimation Strategies.  This unit is a review of what we did in Unit 1 and 2!  Make sure to review place value and your multiplication facts at home!

Reading:  We will begin our next short novel, Why the Sea is Salty and discuss the emphasis of the vocabulary throughout the story.

Social Studies:  All about the Midwest!  We have begun to look at the states and their capitals that make up the Midwest!  Throughout this unit we will look at the geography, weather and landmarks that make up this territory.  We will also challenge ourselves to the first set of capitals by taking our first quiz on the 21st.  To help learn them check out this fun song we do in class! Midwest Song

Religion:   We are continuing on Unit 3 which focuses on how our decisions affect others.  This has been a great reminder for all to make sure that we think before we speak.

ELA:  Our Unit 6 quiz next Friday will be a review of our first 5 quizzes.  All the words should be familiar since we have seen them all before! 🙂

Buddies!  Today we spent some time with our 2nd Grade Buddies doing a fun Halloween STEM activity.  Make sure to ask all about the different challenges that they had to face.  Who knew that marshmallows and popsicle sticks could be so fun?!

A few reminders…

Mass: We will be attending 8am Mass each Tuesday.  Students should be dropped off at their regular drop off points and head into the classroom. School doors will open at 7:45 am to allow students time to put away their belongings and head to the church as a class. Students arriving late should head straight to church.

Homework is given every Monday-Thursday.  Each night your child should be reading a minimum of 30 minutes.  They will also have Simple Solutions (Math), spelling and Math homework.  This needs to be completed when assigned and turned in the following day.  Going forward, any late work will receive partial credit.

While test corrections are not mandatory, they are highly encouraged to do if the score is below 90%.  Each corrected problem is able to gain back ½ of the point value.  For corrections, they should be done on a separate sheet of paper, not written on the original test.  From the day the test is given back, the students only have two days to make their corrections.  Anything past this will not be accepted. (Unless your student was absent).
For Spelling: points can be earned back by writing the word correctly 5 times.
Each of the other tests should be self explanatory.
