Got that down? Great! Here’s the latest in ELA and homeroom literature.

6-8th ELA: This week, we focused on vocabulary words from the i-Ready curriculum. Since we only had 10, grades 6th and 7th had a test today. 8th will test on Monday. Next week, we will study some Halloween vocabulary words and yes, there will be a short test. Your child should be familiar with these words already, so this shouldn’t be too scary! Remind you child to make flashcards and review them every night, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. A little practice goes a long way.

We also spent a lot of time researching and writing the VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay. This is due October 28th and there will be no extensions! The deadline to submit to the contest is October 28th. Please send the permission slip to school as we will submit any contest entries for you. Your child does not have to enter, but it is highly encouraged. 7th and 8th grades will have another essay to complete by November 2nd. More details to follow. We will spend class time working on it too, but please encourage your child to work on essays and projects outside of school! After all of these essays and contests, we will take a break from long essays until the next trimester and focus heavily on vocabulary and grammar.

Homeroom Literature: We finished Wonder!!! What a lovely book. Next week, we will review the book to prepare for our test the following week. Then, after the test we will watch the movie! We will also read some short stories that have the same theme of belonging to nicely wrap up this novel.
