week of September 27th

Good afternoon! Happy Friday!

What’s New This week:

1) We did an interactive decade of the rosary. Every student in the class had a part which was great. They seemed to enjoy learning about this traditional method pf prayer. I have plastic rosaries for them but if they have a rosary they loke they can bring it in. If it is valuable/sentimental–I would not bring it in. I plan to keep the rosary in our sixth graders lives at least once a week and I eventually want to expand this ALL the junior high and do an interactive living rosary presentation at church with each student representing a bead..

2) We are reviewing many concepts from Simple Solutions Lesson 3–add/subt/mult/div fractions, rounding, proportions, coordinates and much more! The more the students review and work with these concepts they will remember how to do them in Simple Solutions, iready, other important exams (like the Catholic High School exam in 8th grade). Quiz is today for lesson 3 in Simple Solutions. Our goal as a class is get everyone to get an A on the quiz. It may take a few weeks but I am confident we will get there!

3) We are about 75% finished with Wonder. The students worked on a character development worksheet while I was out of the classroom on Thursday afternoon. I was at Lyons Township attending our district math meeting. I make sure we are learning the necessary curriculum to be successful if and when a student transfers to Lyons Township. We got excellent feedback about our recent graduates latest test scores and it sounded like they were doing well in their respective math course. This is always excellent to hear as a teacher and parent at St Cletus!

4) Students learned about executive functioning via a reflection sheet and slide show for Social Emotional Learning..

5) Students met with their buddies they had them count dots on a dice and then color fall leaves to match that amount. They also helped their buddy write their name on fun erasable expo boards.

6) Students had a chance to go shopping at the PBIS store if they earned tickets for candy and prizes.

7) Our class has the mass this week on Tuesday 8am morning mass–Matthew, Kathleen, and Petra will be reading.

8)Last Friday I attended meetings from the AOC about bringing prayer into the classroom. I learned about interactive way to bring in spontaneous prayer (popcorn prayer), traditional (rosary, Hail Mary), and Scripture. We’ve already begun with our rosary-yes!

9) We survived picture day-I really cannot believe we are already at Picture Day! Time is flying!

10) We received paperwork to fill out for a Spanish movie series permission slip. We also received information about the Spanish Club and re-enrollment information for next year.

11) The students received their math i-ready report to bring home for your viewing. It is early in the year but if you not at grade level please encourage your child to do extra iready lessons in the evening at home.
