We are excited to begin our opinion writing unit! Students have chosen topics they feel strongly about and are beginning to put their ideas on paper as they work on their rough drafts, or “sloppy copies.” They have started writing their introductions, where they share their opinions and introduce their topics. Next, students will work on writing supporting reasons to explain why they feel the way they do.
Next, students will add supporting reasons and details to explain their thinking before working on a conclusion to wrap up their writing. We look forward to seeing their ideas grow as they become confident opinion writers!
✨ Coming Soon: first drafts of our opinion writing, and starting drafting our sloppy copy.

📖 Reading
We are excited to begin our next class novel:
⭐ The Witch Of Blackbird Pond
By: Elizabeth George Speare
We will be reading and studying this novel throughout the month of October and mid November.
Students will also receive a weekly reading packet to complete throughout the week. These packets will be collected at the end of the unit and will count toward their points, so please help your child remember to complete it!
📚 Weekly Reading Reminder
Miss Pretzie’s students have a reading log! The purpose of this log is to help students keep track of their reading progress at home.
Students should read for 20 minutes each day and turn in their reading log each week to earn 5 points. 📚✨
📝 Spelling
Every Friday, students will take a quiz on that week’s spelling words and their definitions.
Good news! Spelling quizzes can be corrected for half-credit recovery. Encourage your child to review their words throughout the week!
🔬 Science
We are continuing to explore new concepts in science through hands-on activities, classroom discussions, and collaborative learning. Students are building their understanding of scientific concepts while practicing how to ask questions, make observations, and think critically.
