Dear DLI Families,
Welcome to our first full week of school! We have already done so many wonderful things together. This week, we continued practicing and reinforcing our classroom routines so that transitioning from one activity to another becomes easier and more familiar for our students.
La letra Aa
This week, we have been learning about la letra Aa y su sonido. We discovered that words such as amarillo, abeja, and azul all begin with the letter Aa! 🐝
We will continue practicing recognizing the letter Aa, listening for its sound, and finding words that begin with Aa (like in our names).
☀️ Our Morning Routine
During our morning routine, we have been practicing our morning song, los días de la semana, and our canción del saludo. The students are becoming more comfortable with our daily routine and are doing a wonderful job participating and learning together.
✏️ Writing
This week, we also introduced our Handwriting Without Tears booklet! We are beginning to work on important pre- writing and handwriting skills, including how to properly hold our writing tools, follow lines, and begin forming letters.
We cannot wait to see how much their writing skills develop and grow throughout the school year!
📚 Story of the Week: David va a la escuela
We read David va a la escuela and used the story to talk about classroom rules and making good choices at school.
Together, we discussed the right way to behave at school as well as choices that are not appropriate or safe. We also talked about how we can take a “bad choice” and turn it into a good choice.
For example, instead of running in the classroom, we can use walking feet. Instead of shouting, we can use our inside voices. Instead of taking something from a friend, we can practice asking nicely and taking turns.
This story was a great way for our students to think about how their actions affect others and how we can all help make our classroom a happy, safe, and caring place.
We are so excited to continue learning, growing, practicing our Spanish, and making wonderful memories together in DLI Pre-K 4!
Thank you, families, for your continued support and for helping us make this a wonderful start to the school year!
