A Week Full of Learning, Faith, and Fall Fun! 🎃
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We have had another wonderful week in kindergarten! Our days have been filled with exciting learning, meaningful conversations, and special traditions. As we head into a fun-filled week, please take a moment to read through our classroom updates and important reminders. Thank you for your continued support!
Looking Ahead: Red Ribbon Week
Please be sure to check the school calendar for all the fun activities planned for Red Ribbon Week, which kicks off on Monday with our $1 Pink Dress-Down Day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! We look forward to a fun week of activities and school spirit!
🤝 Tuesday: Buddy Time & Food Pantry Donations
On Tuesday, we will meet with our wonderful eighth-grade buddies for another special Buddy Time! Our students always enjoy spending time with their older buddies and building these meaningful friendships.
We kindly ask that each student bring in one canned good to donate to our very own St. Cletus Food Pantry. This is a wonderful opportunity to teach our little ones about generosity, kindness, and helping those in our community. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
Science: All About Pumpkins!
This week in science, we learned all about pumpkins! We explored how pumpkins grow and identified their different parts. We practiced learning the Spanish vocabulary for each part, including semilla (seed), tallo (stem), cáscara (rind), and hoja (leaf).
Our little scientists loved discovering how each part helps the pumpkin grow. We are always learning new things, and it is so exciting to see their curiosity blossom!
Día de los Muertos: A Special Classroom Tradition
We have started setting up our very own Día de los Muertos altar in our classroom, and the students are SO excited to bring in a picture of a loved one to place on our altar! It has been a beautiful opportunity to talk about family, memories, and the special people who will always hold a place in our hearts.
Next week, we will continue preparing our altar by decorating picture frames and making our own faux pan de muerto! We cannot wait to see our classroom come together as we celebrate this meaningful tradition.
Reading & Spanish
We continued reading our decodable texts in class, which help us practice the phonics skills we are learning and recognize our weekly vocabulary words.
-
- Palabras que quiero saber: con, dos, sube
-
- Letra de la semana: Ss
-
- Sílabas: sa, se, si, so, su
Keep encouraging your little reader to practice these words and syllables at home! A few minutes of reading practice each day can make a big difference in building confidence and fluency. ¡Muy bien, lectores!
Religion: God Made Us Special!
This week in religion, we talked about what makes each of us special. The students shared some beautiful answers, including being helpful, different, unique, and loved. It was so sweet to hear how they recognize the wonderful qualities in themselves and others!
We discussed how God made each one of us unique in our own special way. God makes no mistakes, and He loves each of us just as we are. What a wonderful reminder for our little ones that they are special, valued, and deeply loved!
🎃 Halloween Reminders & Guidelines
Halloween is just around the corner, and we are looking forward to a fun-filled day of celebrations, our classroom party, and trunk-or-treating! Please review the following school guidelines to help ensure a safe and enjoyable day for everyone.
-
- Comfortable, bathroom-friendly costumes: Students must be able to use the bathroom independently. If a costume is complicated, please consider sending a simpler costume for school and saving the other for home.
-
- No props: Please leave all wands, gloves, brooms, whistles, plastic swords, lightsabers, and similar accessories at home.
-
- No facial makeup: Facial makeup is not permitted.
-
- Gym shoes are required: Please make sure your child wears comfortable gym shoes.
-
- School-appropriate costumes only: Violent or gory costumes, such as Freddy or Jason, are not allowed. Skeletons, witches, Dracula, and similar traditional costumes are fine.
-
- No clown costumes: Clown costumes are not permitted.
-
- No candy or goodies to pass out: Please do not send candy or other treats for students to distribute.
We know Halloween is such an exciting day for our little ones! Between the party, trunk-or-treating, and helping everyone navigate the day in their costumes, we stay VERY busy! It truly helps us keep things running smoothly when we have fewer items to pass out. Don’t worry, we know our little pumpkins will still be bringing home plenty of goodies!
Early Dismissal After Trunk-or-Treat: If you plan to pick up your child immediately after trunk-or-treating, please plan ahead and contact the school’s main office to let them know. This will help us coordinate dismissal smoothly and safely.
Thank you for helping us make Halloween a memorable and happy day for our kindergarteners!
