- Journaling: Journaling continues! We are still very teacher guided at this point focusing on letters making up words, words making up sentences, finger spaces and learning how to use the word wall.
- Word wall word booklets: We will practice a new word wall book next week during centers. Remember, when your child comes home with a printable word wall book, please help your child practice reading that booklet to “three lucky listeners.” That could be a grown-up, sibling, stuffed animal, a grandparent on the phone, etc. The purpose of these word wall/high frequency word books is to practice word wall word/high frequency word recognition (the words that are highlighted), left to right tracking and to build CONFIDENCE.
- Shared writing: We will continue shared writing. Each child will be called up to the front and will have a chance to help me write a short “story” following this format: My name is–, I am — years old, I like —, I do not like —-.
- Fundations printing: We will keep practicing letter formation using the sky, plane, grass and worm lines. We have almost finished all of our lowercase letters!
- Word wall words: Current word wall words: no, yes, the, I, go, we, will, see, is, to, a, my, and, do. Next week I will introduce like, have. We will practice both reading and writing these words. See if your child can show you some of these when you’re reading at home!
Math:
We will continue to work on representing numbers 6-10 with objects, representing 6-10 with a written numeral and comparing numbers to 10. In addition to this, we will continue to work on the following math skills all month long:
- Tally Marks: We will use tally marks to represent numbers and show “tens” and “ones.”
- Base Ten blocks: We will use base 10 blocks to represent numbers greater than 10. This is another way we will practice those very tricky teen numbers!
- Ten Frames: We will use a double ten frame to represent teen numbers and show “tens” and “ones.”
- Counting by 1s: We will continue to practice counting by 1s, now up to 60! Keep practicing at home. We like to pat our laps as we count and CLAP each time we get to a new group of ten.
- Counting by 10s: I introduced skip counting by 10s to 100 and they’ve been doing great with that skill! We learned a new circle time game called “buzz” which helps us practice recognizing TENS.
- Graphing: We will continue to analyze graphs to answer “how many” and “how many more”
- Greater than/less than/equal to: We will use the following symbols to compare numbers: >, <, =
Religion/Science:
- We will continue to attend 8am Mass on Tuesdays.
- Next week’s feeling is: anger; God cares how we feel and asks us to care for others! We will continue our SECOND STEP program as well.
- We will learn about All Saint’s and All Soul’s day. Saints are God’s SUPERSTARS! Saints do such a good job of doing God’s work, they’re given a special place in heaven and we call them SAINTS! Some saints are more famous than others. We will hear stories of a few of our more well known saints.
- We will begin to learn about THANKSGIVING and the importance of counting our blessings. Stay tuned for information about our upcoming “blessing’s feast.”
