Octubre de Manzanas

Dear DLI Families,

What a fun and exciting week we had in DLI! Our students continued developing their Spanish language skills through phonics, math, music, and hands-on activities. We are so proud of the progress they are making each day!

¡La letra M y las vocales!

This week, we focused on the letra M and the sound it makes. We began exploring how the letter M combines with our vowels to form syllables, such as ma, me, mi, mo, and mu. We also reviewed our five special vowels, A, E, I, O, U, which we call las vocales. We learned that they are like a little family and enjoyed listening to a fun vowel song to help us remember them!

We continue practicing our Heggerty phonemic awareness activities every day, and it has been wonderful to see our students becoming more confident in recognizing and identifying sounds in words.

In Zoo-Phonics, we continued reviewing our animal friends and the letters they represent. Our students are becoming more familiar with matching each letter to its corresponding Zoo-Phonics friend. We have also started a fun activity in which students identify the letters in their own names and connect them to their Zoo-Phonics friends. This is a wonderful way to build letter recognition while helping our little learners make personal connections to what they are learning!

¡La figura de la semana: El círculo!

Our shape of the week was el círculo! We explored this shape and practiced identifying and drawing it. During our math activities, we discussed its characteristics, including whether it has sides or corners. We are learning to observe shapes carefully and describe what makes each one up.

 ¡Todo sobre las manzanas!

This week, we explored the exciting topic of ¡Todo sobre las manzanas! We learned about apples and explored the colors rojo, amarillo, and verde. On Thursday, we enjoyed a special apple-tasting activity with our buddies! Our students had the opportunity to taste different apple varieties and share their opinions about which one they liked best. We also incorporated our math skills by comparing our favorites and deciding which color apple was the most delicious! It was a wonderful way to combine Spanish vocabulary, sensory exploration, and early math skills while learning through hands-on experiences.

¡Estamos muy orgullosas! We are so proud of our little learners and the progress they continue to make in their Spanish language development, phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and early math skills. Thank you for supporting our classroom learning and making these experiences even more meaningful!

¡Sigan practicando en casa y que tengan un maravilloso fin de semana!
