Next Week
Next week is our field trip to the La Grange Farmers Market! It will be a regular snack and lunch day, so please remember to pack both for your child. Make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather.
Please do not send your child with extra money. The cost of the items needed for the trip was already included in the $10 fee you submitted.
We will also continue attending 8:00 AM Mass every Tuesday. Thank you for helping your child arrive on time so we can begin Mass promptly.
Math
We are beginning our second math workbook! This unit focuses on building number sense and working with numbers 6–10. Students will practice:
- Representing numbers 6–10 using objects.
- Matching quantities to their written numerals.
- Comparing numbers up to 10.
Throughout the month, we will also continue strengthening these important math skills:
- Number Writing: Students will practice writing numbers correctly using the lines. Remember, reversed numbers are still developmentally appropriate at this age. With practice and encouragement, students will continue to build confidence and improve their number formation.
- Tally Marks: We will practice using tally marks to represent numbers and explore how numbers can be organized into tens and ones.
Reading and Writing
We continue to build on the literacy skills we have been practicing in the classroom. Students are strengthening their letter formation and learning to recognize and use both uppercase and lowercase letters. We are also working on building syllables and putting them together to form words. These skills help our little learners develop their early reading and writing abilities!
We are continuing to practice our Spanish sight words and encouraging students to recognize and use them when speaking and reading. Here are some of the words we are working on:
- yo (I)
- mi (my)
- me (me)
- es (is)
- la (the)
- el (the)
- un (a/an)
- una (a/an)
- veo (I see)
- soy (I am)
- y (and)
- no (no/not)
We are also expanding our knowledge of books and exploring different types of texts, including fiction, nonfiction, and informational books. Students are learning to recognize how books can tell stories, share facts, and teach us new things about the world around us.
Apple Week!
We had so much fun celebrating Apple Week! Throughout the week, we learned about the life cycle of an apple and explored the many characteristics of different apples. Before our taste test, we observed their shapes, colors, color combinations, and even the little speckles on their skin. We used our senses, shared our observations, and discovered that apples can look and taste different from one another.
We ended our week with a special classroom activity: making our very own applesauce! The students loved seeing how we could turn apples into a delicious snack, especially since we used some of the apples they brought from home. It was a wonderful way to bring our learning to life through observation, discussion, and hands-on exploration!
