Ms. Skinner’s Class Updates

Happy Friday! It was a lovely week up in junior high, but before we get into what we accomplished, let’s go over important dates and reminders:

October 12th – no school!

October 13th – 8am Mass. We are reading! I sent an email home to parents of readers, altar servers, and gift bearers. Please practice the readings and come to school earlier than usual. Thank you!

October 13th – Catholic High School Night 6pm – 7pm

October 16th – 2pm School Spirit Assembly – Spirit Dress Down day

October 20th – 2pm Altar Serving Training in Church for 3rd and up

Our Halloween Party will be on October 30th – if you would like to volunteer, please reach out to me! We need compliant volunteers.

Now, here is a recap of last week and what we expect to cover next week:

All grades English Language Arts: Our first major paper, the Argument Essay, was due TODAY! Students spent this week revising, peer editing, and finalizing citations in class. They had a lot of work to do, but I am impressed with their hard work. Over the course of this paper, we discussed how to find credible sources, the importance of evidence, and the value of revising papers for clarity. I will continue to require handwritten papers for the foreseeable future as I want students to build their writing stamina, improve their penmanship, and increase responsibility for keeping track of materials. Next week, we will begin work on the VFW Essay Contest! This year’s theme is “What a Veteran Taught Me.”

6th Grade Literature: We are almost done with Wonder! Today, we gave major characters book, movie, or song recommendations that best related to their personalities and experiences in the book. Once we finish the book, we will have a test. Fun fact, tomorrow is Auggie’s birthday, so we will celebrate it on Tuesday!

Genius Hour: Today, we joined Mrs. Van Wyck’s class and prayed part of the Rosary. We learned what each bead meant, what a decade is, and went over the Joyful Mysteries. It was a beautiful way to start the morning, and we hope to have more of these prayers soon. If your child received a special Rosary, please find it! You do not have to bring it to school, we just want to make sure that every student knows where one is.

Fenwick Spooky Story Contest: Entering the contest is optional! I will also accept stories for extra credit, regardless of contest entry.
