¡Hola, Octubre!

It has been another wonderful week of learning, growing, and sharing together! The students continue to bring such enthusiasm and joy to our classroom, and I am so proud of all they are accomplishing.

Show and Tell: Keeping God Close

We continued our Show and Tell activity, sharing a baptismal memento or another special object that helps us remember God and keeps us close to Him. The students enjoyed sharing these meaningful items and listening to one another’s stories.

We did not get a chance to finish everyone’s sharing, so we will continue our Show and Tell on Monday. Thank you for helping your child choose and bring in such a special item!

Religion

This week, we began learning about Baptism. We talked about how Baptism is a special sacrament that welcomes us into God’s family. We learned about some of the special signs and symbols of Baptism, including water, the candle, the white garment, and the Sign of the Cross.

We will begin learning a new prayer, Padre Nuestro (Our Father).

We will continue to attend 8:00 AM Mass on Tuesdays.

Literacy

We have been learning about the different parts of a book, including the portada (front cover), contraportada (back cover), lomo (spine), and hojas (pages). We also introduced the words autor (author) and ilustrador (illustrator).

The students are learning about different types of texts. We introduced texto informativo, which is a text that teaches us about something. We will continue practicing identifying and talking about these different parts of books and types of texts.

Writing

We continue to practice number and letter formation. We are working very hard on writing our first and last names.

Please continue practicing at home. We are working on remembering that the first letter of our name is a capital letter and the rest are lowercase letters.

Math

We continue to work in our Into Math workbook. The students love using the different manipulatives and dot markers to help them work through our lessons and show their thinking.

Counting

We will continue to practice counting by 1s to 30.

At Home: Keep practicing that counting! You can say a number and have your child say the next number. Go back and forth and see how far you can count together!

Next week, we will have an apple taste test! We will learn about different kinds of apples and talk about how apples grow. The students are very excited to explore and taste the different varieties!
