6th Social Studies- 6th grade has started on The Fertile Crescent and Mesopotamia! Students are now tasked with being assigned a group and an ancient Mesopotamian king, who they are researching about and will need to present their projects to class.
7th Social Studies- 7th grade has finished our recap of The American Revolution with their final test! Next we will make a time jump and start learning about events that will unfold to lead us into the Civil War.
8th Social Studies- In 8th grade we are continuing learning about WW2. We have started with events leading up to the major powers declaring war and now we are currently learning about the Holocaust and how that started before war was declared and how life has changed for many during this time. We will continue with the Holocaust and the end of the war.
7th Literature- 7th grade has started reading our first novel “The Giver”. We got to a really important part in the novel where the characters have their Ceremony of Twelve and are assigned their jobs. After we have read this and found out Jonas job, we had our own mock Ceremony of Twelve, where students were assigned their job and will have to decide to accept their job or appeal the decision. Students will write a speech appealing or accepting and will need to present their speech to the class.
8th Literature- 8th grade has continued reading the hunger games. They are using evidence from the text to create characterization charts of different characters in the novel.
Junior High Class Model:
Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies/ 7&8th Literature (Ms. Diaz), Science/ Math (Ms. Fogle), Math (Mrs. Van Wyck), ELA (Ms. Skinner) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week. This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
