Tales of the Third Grade EVERYTHING

Hello Third Grade Families,

Our PBIS winner this week was Abby Evans.  Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Don’t forget that Students have MANY different opportunities in the classroom to earn PBIS tickets everyday.  Some of the ways are FULLY completing and turning in homework NEATLY and ON TIME.  Following ALL directions and NEATLY completing classwork assignments the same day.  Memorizing multiplication facts 0 to 12 (the students get 1 ticket for each set of facts memorized.)  There will be many more opportunities added through the year.

Religion:  We will be learning about the four signs of the Church and what they mean in our Religion.  The four sign are ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC.  

Science:  The students will continue presenting their CHANGES IN TECHNOLOGY projects to the class.

Math:  The class will learn how to use Multiplication Strategies with Multiples of 10.  They will learn how to Multiply 1-Digit Numbers by 10.

 Spelling:   The students will review the sound of /o/ spelled aw and o in words.

Phonics:   The class will finish unit 3 with a review of syllables, consonant blends and digraphs, as well as r – controlled vowels.

Reading:   This week the students will begin reading a historical story about life in Alaska as they read about “The Athabascans.”  This story can be read at home as well with access through GOOGLE CLASSROOM.

Social Studies:  Please work with your child to pick a President to create a mobile on for the month of February.  These mobiles will be due ON or BEFORE Tuesday February 28th.  Presidential picks are due NO LATER than Friday February 10th.  Please see directions that were sent home with your child.  Please add your child’s name to the sign up sheet located on our GOOGLE CLASSWORK page.  There will not be any duplication Presidents for this project.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
